If we think about health, disease, respectively, we see the human person as a sum of parts (systems, organ) or as a whole. In the first case, try to medically treat the different parts that do not work well, often ignoring interactions with other parties and, especially, how each illness feels, pain, diagnosis or treatment.
But we can look at any "patient" as a person who has a body and a psyche that are always interacting. We can think that a psychological state produces organic disorder or pathological condition as a result of certain psychological experiences.
Sometimes, after medical investigation is laborious to find a physical cause of a symptom that upsets us. When we hear phrases like: "is the substance of nervous," is psychogenic origin, "is due to stress." There are different ways of saying that in terms of somatic, organic, no one cause, but no symptoms, and the real cause of is psychological. In this category there are many diseases that are fully or partially caused by mental states. From eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia so common in adolescence, psychogenic vomiting occurred in an infant, child or adult, to enuresis, sexual disorders or diseases of the skin to dizziness, headaches, asthma, insomnia, infertility ... After finding a road map together with the patient in case we had not thought of. A separation, a bereavement, an accident or an event that you consider important may not be a source of disorder.
In these cases, psychotherapy is the solution of the problem. But it is hard to find a solution for the therapist is among the last to reach the person who suffers. Psychotherapy is not magic but a way to help the patient to express in words the pain his body was not physically separate but both of them consider him to make connections that do not think so then they can bring in feelings which consciousness has been ignored, minimized or suppressed.
Sure, in many cases you need both medication and psychotherapy or counseling. It is also important to remember that children at early age, and adults can benefit from psychological help tailored to their age and condition.
In addition, in many cases of chronic illness, disability, accidents are very traumatic psychologically speaking, or psychological help is recommended for the patient or his family.
